English

In English, we have continued with our book The Adventures of the Egg Box Dragon. We read on in our story and found out that the Egg Box Dragon has become FAMOUS! He was on TV and in the newspaper. This week we have become News Reporters and written our own questions to interview the Egg Box Dragon. We discussed what a question is and what shows us it is a question, then wrote our questions. We then took on the News Reporter role and asked the Egg Box Dragon our questions. We haven't discovered what will happen next but we have examined the next illustration and captioned what we think is happening in the picture. We have continued with handwriting and reading and spelling common exception words to help with our fluency.

In phonics they are revising previous learnt sounds and learning new sounds. This will aid their reading and we appreciate you reading with your child. Remember Active Learn is a great site to encourage reading and build comprehension skills.

Maths

During our Maths lessons we have been focusing on one to one correspondence skills to help us count and solve problems and have begun to compare objects. We have been using language such as more, less, fewer, less than, equal to, greater than and more than to compare amounts of objects and creating sentences using this vocabulary.

We have been exploring toys and games from the past in History. Trying the outdoor games and investigating the toys then comparing to toys from the present and discussing which we prefer. Present toys were the winners, but lots of children asked if we could keep the past toys out for their break time! In Science we have continued with our Materials topic. We have started to prepare for an experiment using materials to protect an egg from a drop. We have predicted which material would work as the best protection, wrote our predictions and, as a class, wrote down the method, ready to complete the experiment next lesson.
